What is acclimatising and why do I need to do it?

Like all materials, the size of a carpet changes very slightly according to temperature - acclimatising a carpet is simply laying it in the area where it will be fitted, so that it reaches the correct size when it comes to securing it. Most carpet is stored in a warehouse before delivery - this will be colder on average than a house so the carpet will be fractionally smaller. If it is fitted without being acclimatised, then the carpet will ‘buckle’ and may even split when it expands.
