Which underlay should I use?

We generally recommend polyurethane underlay, as it has many advantages - it is light, environmentally friendly, relatively cheap and ‘springs back’ far faster (and for far longer) than traditional sponge rubber underlay. It is also an excellent insulator and absorbs sound.

However, because of it’s insulating properties it isn’t always suitable to use with underfloor heating.

Our preferred underlay is the Carpenter range which is reliable, high-density and hard-wearing. The Ultimate Living and Prostep products from this range are also suitable excellent for natural floor-covering like sisal.

Other types of underlay such as Sponge Rubber and Felt are covered in more detail on this blog post.
