faq / choosing carpet / types03

In a loop carpet the yarn is formed into coil- the loops can all be the same height, known as a ‘flat level’ loop pile or in differing heights, for a textured finish. The ‘flat level’ is more resilient, better suited for high-traffic areas like landings and stairs, whereas the textured version feels more pleasant and so is preferred for living and bedrooms. Overall loop carpets are more hardwearing than twist carpets, but pile height and pile density will still be important. Sometimes pets can get their their claws can get stuck in loop carpet, so this is also worth taking into account.
